Abstract

This study explores the growing role of digital technologies and resources in reshaping Urdu literary historiography. Traditionally, the study of Urdu literary history has depended on physical archives, rare manuscripts, Tazkiras, printed books, and sources that are often difficult to access and preserve. The emergence of digital archives, online repositories, and platforms such as Rekhta has significantly improved access to classical texts, biographical records, and lesser-known literary works. Digital humanities tools also enable researchers to examine literary trends, linguistic changes, historical developments, and patterns of literary production with greater efficiency and precision. However, challenges such as limited Urdu OCR accuracy, inconsistent digitisation, inadequate metadata, and the lack of uniform digital standards continue to affect scholarly research. The study highlights the importance of integrating digital resources into Urdu literary historiography for preserving literary heritage, expanding scholarly access, and developing a contemporary framework for writing Urdu literary history.
