Mewati Dialect: An Ancient Source of the Urdu Language

Abstract

The origin and evolution of the Urdu language and its historical journey have long been a subject of considerable interest and importance among linguists and researchers. The roots of the Urdu language are generally linked to the dialects spoken in Delhi and its surrounding areas, such as Barj Bhasha, Khari Boli, Punjabi and Mewati. However, the linguistic role of the Mewati dialect has historically been examined on an academic and research basis. The main objective of this paper is to prove the Mewati dialect as an important primary and ancient source in the linguistic formation of the Urdu language. Through indepth linguistic observation, comparative and historical analysis, this study critically examines the deep phonetic, morphological and syntactic commonality between Mewati and old Urdu. Bynexamining the grammatical structure, common lexical items and phonetic changes, this research clarifies how the geographical proximity of the Mewati dialect to the historical centers of power of Delhi and the Mewat region played an important and driving role in the formation of the Urdu language, Provided the opportunity to play a role.
