Abstract

Khawaja Muhammad Zakariya’s "Patthar Nahin Hoon Mein" is not just an autobiography, it is a masterclass in how language carries memory. This study looks closely at the way Zakariya builds his sentences (جملوں کی ترکیب سازی), switching between simple, compound, and complex forms to match the mood of what he is telling.  We also dig into his love for compound words, those little pairings that do so much heavy lifting in Urdu. You will see how he uses Genitive (مرکبِ اضافی), Descriptive (مرکبِ توصیفی), Copulative (مرکبِ عطفی), and Intensive (تابع متبوع) compounds to add layers of meaning without wasting a word.  By pulling apart these syntactical choices, we get a clearer picture of Zakariya’s voice: how he controls pace, builds emotion, and makes his personal story feel both intimate and literary. Ultimately, his syntax is not just grammar—it is style, and it shows how modern Urdu autobiography can be shaped at the sentence level.
