This study presents a comparative analysis of news headlines in social media and print media, focusing on Urdu newspaper in Pakistan. News headlines play a crucial role in shaping readers’ initial understanding and response to news content. With the rapid expansion of social media, the stylistic and linguistic nature of headlines has significantly changed. While print journalism emphasizes clarity, brevity, and informational balance, social media headlines often rely on emotional appeal, curiosity, and sensational language to attract attention. Using a qualitative approach, the study examines selected Urdu news headlines from print newspapers and social media platforms. The analysis highlights differences in linguistic choices, stylistic patterns, and narrative strategies, along with their impact on readers’ comprehension and opinion formation. The findings suggest that social media headlines tend to produce immediate but superficial reactions, whereas print journalism encourages more reflective understanding. Positioned within the linguistic and cultural context of Urdu journalism, the study emphasizes the importance of headline discourse in shaping public opinion and social consciousness.
