Abstract

Feminine voices in contemporary Urdu poetry are increasingly diverging from classical traditions and engaging with their immediate social and cultural environments. Among these voices, Hamida Shaheen holds a significant place. Her poetry offers a distinctive synthesis of feminine sensibility and contemporary consciousness, through which she articulates a wide range of life experiences. Her verses reflect a deep concern with the erosion of moral values, the existential emptiness of the present era, systemic oppression and exploitation, resistance against class-based structures, and an intense lamentation over the disintegration of ethical norms and the anguish of a fractured societal order.
